Which is why, in this article, we are going to see how as a student you can find high paying careers (of today and tomorrow) and use it to figure out what skills to learn today while you are still in school.

Step 1: Find High-Paying Careers
To find a high-paying career, we need to look at:
How much a job is paying
Who is paying
And will these jobs even exist 5-10 years down the lane when you graduate.
To find these, let's look at Career Websites and Government Data.

Top 50 Best Employers

Look for:
Projected Jobs
Median Salary
Education Required
Read More (about jobs you are interested in)
Government Data by Canada, United States and India.
USA: Bureau of Labor Statistics
Look for: Occupational Handbook (for careers you are interested in)
Canada: Job Bank Canada, Federal Websites (like WorkBC, SkilledTradesBC)
Look for: Browse Jobs with HIghest Salary, Labour Market Information -> Wage Reports, Outlook Reports, Job Profiles.
Government Jobs: Linkingsky, ISRO, DRDO
Look For: Career Information, Search for Jobs.
Supplement Information with data from: LinkedIn, Naukri, Internshala
Exercise:
While going through this link, create a document with 4 columns.
In the first column, note down careers from this list that you kinda like.
In the second column, write the company name from the 2nd and 3rd lists that matches the job you listed in your first column.

Step 2: Find Degrees and Skills that make you eligible
After completing the above exercise, a part of your table might look like this:
To find degrees and skills that make you eligible for a high-paying jobs, this is what you can do:
Pick a career from your list, pick the company next to it and paste them on the search bar, along with the word ‘jobs’.
Enter: Career + Company Name + “Jobs” in the search bar.
From the search result, go to job listing on the company’s official website.
Check degree and experience requirements
Check Skills Required
Copy paste the above information in your table’s 3rd and 4th column.
As an extra step, go to LinkedIn:
Type your job role in the search bar → Click on Jobs → apply your location → select experience as ‘Entry Level’ in the filter → Browse Job Requirements.
Copy-paste the degree and skill required for jobs listed in the jobs, into your table, especially for the ones that need 0 years of experience.
The skills these companies are looking for are the most important information to note down in your table.
A degree just gets your foot in the door. What gets you a job are the skills that you have, the projects you’ve built.
Which makes this 4th column very very important.
Continue this exercise and find the degrees and skills you need for all the careers in your table.
And you as as student, will start noticing something amazing:
You’ll see that one degree might make you eligible for 2 or more of your dream high-paying careers.
And you’ll also find what are those Plan B and C degrees you can pursue, just incase, you don’t get admitted to your Plan A aka your first choice of degree.

Ideally with your parents, so that you have regular career conversations that don’t just revolve around marks.
